3 Day Yellowstone Winter Tour -Wolves and Wildlife Overview
Partner with a personal guide to track, study and photograph the abundant winter wildlife of the Northern Range of Yellowstone National Park. The focus on this trip is on finding big game in the area with plenty of opportunity to photograph the wildlife and magnificent scenery of the Greater Yellowstone Region. Our goal is to view wolves, coyote, fox, bald eagles, golden eagles, elk, bison, bighorn sheep, mule deer, pronghorn and mountain goats. Additionally our guests have the opportunity to learn about the geology, history and ecology of Yellowstone. The prime habitats include Paradise Valley, Mammoth Hot Springs, Blacktail Plateau, Little America and the famous Lamar Valley, which is also known as the Serengeti of North America.
3 Day Yellowstone Winter Tour – Wolves and Wildlife Includes
We allow a maximum group of 8 guests per vehicle to ensure a quality and personalized experience with a professional naturalist guide. We offer a complimentary hotel pick-up and return for all visitors. Meals throughout the tour include breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and a souvenir water bottle. We also arrange comfortable lodging for the two nights for our guests. Spotting scopes and binocular equipment are ready for your use in searching and observing the wonderful wildlife in Yellowstone National Park. Guide gratuity and national park entrance fees are not included. Winter in Yellowstone temperatures range from -20°F to 52°F.
Hotel Pick-up Times
The exact pick up time is dependent on hotel location in Bozeman, MT and Livingston, MT, and guests will be notified of the pickup time prior to departure. Please allow your guide an additional 5-10 minutes to pickup other guests and adapt to traffic conditions. Seasonal changes to the start time may occur to accommodate optimum wildlife viewing.

The open 3 Day Yellowstone Winter Tour is priced from $1,600 and is based on double occupancy. (Single supplement is $200). There is a minimum age restriction of 8 years old for this wildlife tour. Alternatively, the private tour is priced from $6,400 which is based on a per vehicle/double occupancy basis, with up to 4 passengers ($975 per additional passenger). (Single supplement is $200). There is a maximum limit of 8 passengers but there is no age restrictions for the private safari tour.
3 Day Yellowstone Winter Tour – Wolves and Wildlife Details
Day One: Yellowstone National Park
Guests will meet their personal guide at their hotel in the Bozeman area. The trip begins in an Eastwood direction over Bozeman pass to Livingston Montana and south through the picturesque Paradise Valley to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park, taking approximately 1.5 hours. Guests can expect to spend the morning exploring the northern most region of Yellowstone National Park, visiting popular attractions including Roosevelt Arch, the historic Albright Visitor Center, and Mammoth Hot Springs, which is a large hot spring complex on a hillside of travertine terraces. Guests will also have ample time to take plenty of photographs and search for the diverse wildlife living there.
After a quick delicious lunch, we will head deeper into Yellowstone to the Lamar Valley, which is also referred to as the Serengeti of North America. This is known as the best winter wildlife viewing area in Yellowstone and one of the best places in the world to spot wolves in their natural habitat. Spend the afternoon searching for wolves and other wildlife in the area while experiencing the thermal features and the stunning scenery. We will be returning to Gardiner, MT just before sunset to check into our hotel.
Day Two: Yellowstone National Park
Starting early, we will position ourselves perfectly for an optimum wildlife viewing experience, and hopefully hear the wolves of the Northern Range. The best spots for wolf watching depends on current events, pack dynamics, prey migrations and weather conditions. It is not uncommon to spot wolves along the way from Mammoth Hot Springs all the way to Lamar Valley. There will also be plenty of opportunities to observe other animals, including birds soaring through the blue skies, other canines and the abundant hoofed animals on the Northern Range. Winter is a great season for wildlife watching as the animals migrate to lower elevations.
Day Three: Yellowstone National Park
We will start with another early morning of wolf watching on the Northern Range of Yellowstone, surrounded by stunning scenery and landscapes. We will spend most of the day in search of wildlife residing in the area. After lunch in Cooke City, we will continue our day in search of wildlife as we begin our return journey to Gardiner, MT. We expect to return to Bozeman, MT around 5:00pm, and your guide will drop you back off at your hotel of choice.
Exact routes of the itinerary may vary depending on weather, route conditions, and overall group interests. Your guide will support you with suggestions and will personalize the tour experience to your interests.
We hold a 7-day cancellation policy for all 2-day and 3-day wildlife safaris; cancellations made before the policy is activated will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within the 7 days and day before the departure will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations or no-shows on the day of departure will not receive a refund. We suggest considering travel insurance to protect yourselves from any unforeseen circumstance that may prevent your from joining us on the expedition.
