7 Day Yellowstone and Grant Teton Tour Itinerary

Day One: Jackson Hole

We will be meeting in the early evening at the Gallery Wild for a guide introduction and expedition orientation. The Gallery Wild is owned and run by local artists Carrie Wild and her husband Jason Williams, who are both dedicated to finding and producing work inspired by the true natural beauty of the region. Guests will have the opportunity to meet their guide prior to the trip to get an overview of the week and ask any questions that they may have regarding your expedition.

Day Two: National Elk Refuge/Grand Teton National Park

The adventure begins by heading into the National Elk Refuge and Grand Teton National Park in search of the wintering wildlife residing in the area.  Here guests may encounter mule deer, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, wolves and bison who all migrate into the valley during the winter in search of food. Coyote, fox, bald eagles, golden eagles and swans reside here during winter. We will then head to the National Museum of Wildlife Art for a delicious lunch at Palate before spending some time exploring the museum founded in 1987. The museum overlooks the National Elk Refuge and holds over 5,000 items in its permanent collection including paintings, sculptures and paper works. During the afternoon, we will head into the interior of the National Elk Refuge by horse-drawn sleigh. This refuge was built with the anticipation of protecting the local elk population during the winter. Elk migrate to higher elevations during the summer where lush meadow flora thrives. Overnight accommodations will be back at the local hotel.

Day Three: Yellowstone National Park

The day will start bright and early with shuttle transportation into Yellowstone National Park where we will enter through the south gate. Yellowstone is closed to vehicular traffic and only accessible by special “over-snow” vehicles. The trip will be held inside the cozy snow coach which is specifically outfitted to travel over snow. We will have the opportunity to visit some of the popular attractions in the area, including West Thumb Geyser Basin. which is the largest geyser basin on the shores of Yellowstone Lake, also home to the prominent hot spring named Fishing Cone. Fishing Cone was favored in 1870 for its ability to allow fish to be caught in the lake and “cook” it on the hot springs (now prohibited due to unsanitary conditions and danger cautions). Another popular geyser in Upper Geyser Basin is Old Faithful, due to its clockwork-like eruptions, timed to the minute. Today, Old Faithful erupts every 65-90 minutes, depending on the length of the prior eruption. Overnight accommodation will be held at the Snow Lodge in the interior of Yellowstone National Park.

Day Four: Yellowstone National Park

Day 4 begins the transition to Mammoth Hot Springs by snow coach. Guests have the opportunity to take a side trip along the way to visit the Madison River Valley, connecting West Yellowstone to the park interior where there are many chances to spot bison along the road. The North American Continental Divide runs through Yellowstone National Park and is a prominent ridge which pushes water either east to the Atlantic or west to the Pacific Oceans.  Isa Lake, which straddle the Continental Divide between West Thumb and Old Faithful, is a perfect example of a divided body of water. Additionally, guests will see the Artist’s Paint Pots feature, which are one of the five dominant thermal features in Yellowstone National Park. Mudpots are formed when surface water collects with no way to percolate through the soil, typically due to the presence of clay. Hot thermal water beneath the clay forces steam up and bubbles through the clay. The presence of clay causes the mud to turn colors of pink or red, causing the name “Paint Pots.” Overnight accommodation will be at the Mammoth Hotel at the north end of Yellowstone National Park.

Day Five: Yellowstone National Park

Dat 5 of your 7 Day Yellowstone and Grand Teton Tour will start in eastern Yellowstone to explore the Lamar Valley in hopes of spotting the beloved wolves and other winter wildlife. By 1926, the wolves in the national park had been driven to extinction from hunting activities, causing the elk population to boom. Wolves were reintroduced to the park in 1955 and have been a well-loved member of this healthy ecosystem ever since. The Lamar Valley is referred to as the Serengeti of North America due to its wide diversity of species living here, such as bison, mule deer, elk, coyote and moose. The valley runs across the northern reaches of Yellowstone National Park by following the Lamar River. We will spend the night at the Mammoth Hotel in Mammoth Hot Springs.

Day Six: Yellowstone National Park

We will return to the Lamar Valley in search of wildlife once again before heading north to Bozeman, MT for the night. We will cross through Paradise Valley as we travel north. Mammoth Hot Springs is a visual construction of the geological forces at work within the area.

You will spend the night at Element Hotel in Bozeman, MT.

Day Seven: Bozeman, MT

We will depart from Bozeman, Montana on the final day. If your flights allow for a free morning in Bozeman, you are welcome to enjoy some time embracing the mesmerizing sights of this small mountain town.

Our cancellation policy for multi-day expeditions is 90 days; cancellations made before this timeframe will receive a full refund and those made within the 90 days of departure will not be refunded.
